Jeff Simpson

Jeff Simpson is the Continuing Education Director at ElectricalLicenseRenewal.com and has over 25 years in the electrical industry. Jeff recently served the New England area as a Lead Regulatory Engineer with Underwriters Laboratories. Jeff is licensed as an electrician or master electrician in several states including North Carolina, California, and Washington. Jeff previously supervised the electrical inspection department for the City of Durham in North Carolina and worked as a Senior Electrical Inspector for the City of Peoria in Arizona. Jeff is currently serving on Code Making Panel (CMP) 18 for the National Electrical Code.
Jeff is approved as an electrical code’s instructor by 22 state electrical boards and chaired the 2017 Electrical Code Clearing Committee for the North Carolina Chapter International Association of Electrical Inspectors (IAEI). Jeff has also served as Co-Chairman of Education for the NC IAEI. Jeff is a Certified Master Electrical Inspector through the IAEI and holds 29 certifications through the International Code Council (ICC) including Master Code Professional (MCP).
The MCP designation is the highest level of ICC certification and is the "gold standard" for demonstrating proficiency in the code profession. There are just over 1,000 MCP professionals worldwide, and their achievements are a benefit to the code enforcement profession, as well as their communities.

Electrical Working Space
This is a 4 hour credit, instructor led synchronous-webinar electrical continuing education license renewal class that covers working space requirements for electrical equipment in accordance with article 110 of the National Electrical Code.
Attendees will learn about working space, dedicated equipment space, entry and exit requirements for electrical rooms, and listed panic hardware.
This class covers workspace depth, width, and height requirements, clear space requirements, entry and exiting from the working space, large equipment and number of required exits, personnel doors for electric rooms, dedicated equipment space.

Boxes and Enclosures
This is a 4 hour credit, instructor led synchronous-webinar electrical continuing education license renewal class that covers electrical boxes and enclosures in accordance with the National Electrical Code (NEC).
Attendees will be instructed on code compliance with the rules pertaining to electrical enclosures covered in NEC Article 314.
This class will cover the different types of boxes, including their specific uses and installation guidelines and will learn about box sizing calculations and the significance of maintaining proper box fill to ensure NEC compliance.
At the completion of this class, attendees will have a better understanding of types of boxes and product listing, box fill, angle pulls, straight pulls, U-pulls, wire bending space, and boxes installed in rated assemblies.

Passing the Inspection
This is a 4 hour credit, instructor led synchronous-webinar electrical continuing education license renewal class that focuses on electrical trade project preparation, code compliance, and interaction with electrical inspectors.
The intent is to raise awareness of common electrical jobsite mistakes and typical electrical trade related delays that can occur during the construction process related to the National Electric Code.
Attendees will gain a better understanding of electrical plans and plan review considerations, wiring methods permitted in different occupancy types, preparing for each different type of electrical inspection, proper sealing of electrical penetrations through rated assemblies, proper installation of boxes and wiring methods in rated floors, walls, and ceilings, and most common mistakes pertaining to emergency lighting and other key items that tend to hold up the final inspection.
PV System Interconnections
This is a 4 hour credit, instructor led synchronous-webinar electrical continuing education license renewal class covers solar PV system interconnection requirements in accordance with the National Electrical Code NFPA 70.
The NEC rules pertaining to line side and load side connections and taps are difficult to digest and this class will tackle them with custom illustrations intended to make these requirements far less complex.
Class attendees will gain a better understanding of utility interactive PV system interconnections to premises electrical distribution equipment, equipment listing and labeling, load side connections, line side connections, backfed points of interconnection to busbars, feeders, and center fed panelboards in accordance with NEC Article 705.

We are required to verify each attendee’s identity before the class by comparison to a photo ID.
The settings we have chosen in Zoom make it so that other attendees cannot see each other‘s ID cards, only the instructor can.
How to join a Zoom meeting?
- Open the email invitation from us
- Click on the meeting link in the email
- Download the Zoom video call software
- Open the Zoom application
- Join the meeting
Note: Join from browser only works on desktop web browsers. If you are joining the meeting from a mobile device, you must download and join through the Zoom mobile app.

How do I get my license credits?
After ID verification and attending the whole class, we will report your hours to the state board where possible.
Also, your certificate will become available to you immediately in your account under 'Processed Items' should you want to print them out and save them, or if you need to mail them in to the board with your renewal form.
If you need credit in another state too (reciprocation) please call or email us to see if we can do that for you.
What is the cancellation policy?
Cancellation/Rescheduling more than 1 week out = 100% refund.
Cancellation/Rescheduling within 1 week of class but more than 48 hours out = 75% refund.
Cancellation/Rescheduling within 48 hours of class = No Refund, but 50% off next class.
(We would like to give refunds in all situations but each of these seats could have gone to an interested party who needed to renew their license)
