Code Change Summary: Article 800 has been removed and replaced.

In the 2020 NEC®, an almost complete rewrite occurred in Article 800 for communications systems. Prior to the rewrite, the same general requirements appeared over and over through Article 800, 820, 830, and 840.

In the 2020 NEC®, Article 800 contains general requirements used in the other Chapter 8 articles which results in a few less pages between the binding of the new NEC®.

Article 800 applies to communication systems which generally means phone lines, communications circuits, community antenna television and radio distribution systems, network-powered broadband communications systems, and premises-powered broadband communications systems, unless modified by Articles 805, 820, 830, or 840.

Below is a preview of the NEC®. See the actual NEC® text at NFPA.ORG for the complete code section. Once there, click on their link to free access to the 2020 NEC® edition of NFPA 70.
