Code Change Summary: Article 516 was rewritten/reorganized and the title was changed.
Article 516 was almost completely rewritten to bring the article more in line with the 2007 version of NFPA 33, Standard for Spray Application Using Flammable or Combustible Materials and NFPA 34 Standard for Dipping, Coating, and Printing Processes Using Flammable or Combustible Liquids. Informational notes in the 2014 NEC® article were pulled from the 2011 versions of NFPA 33 and 34 but the rest of article 516 was updated to the 2007 versions only.
Previously, the articles text was derived from outdated versions of NFPA 33 and 34 and it was time for an update.
Revised illustrations were created and 4 new definitions were also added.
Don’t get too fond of the new article because it is likely to see another complete overhaul in the 2017 NEC® once again.
Below is a preview of the NEC®. See the actual NEC® text at NFPA.ORG for the complete code section. Once there, click on the “free access” tab and select the applicable year of NFPA 70 (National Electrical code).
