As of January 1, 2022, the VA Department of Professional and Occupational Regulation requires that a portion of the VA Uniform Statewide Building Code (USBC) code changes pertaining to electrical installations be included in electrical continuing education programs.

During the 2018 VA USBC code adoption process, a change was made to add Section 2702.2.17 requiring standby power for special purpose horizontal sliding, accordion or folding doors.

These doors are commonly seen in conference rooms and are used to divide a large room into smaller rooms depending on the size of the conference or event. Not all of these doors are powered. Many are manual folding doors.

For those special purpose doors that are powered, standby power is now required in the event that normal power is absent.

When reviewing the VA USBC for code changes, technical code changes from the previous edition of the International Codes are shown in blue text.

[F] 2702.2.17 Special purpose horizontal sliding, accordion or folding doors.

Standby power shall be provided for special purpose horizontal sliding, accordion or folding doors as required in Section 1010.1.4.3. The standby power supply shall have a capacity to operate not fewer than 50 closing cycles of the door.
