NFPA 731 Section 4.6.3.12(1) requires conductors to be protected from abrasion. In addition, since NFPA 731 Section 4.6.3.1 requires security wiring to be installed in accordance with NEC® Article 725, where applicable, the bushing requirements in 725.3(J) apply (see code language below).
Many new security systems are installed on existing buildings which often results in the security system installer working without a permit or required inspections. Continued uninspected work over years often results in installers that are unfamiliar with the code language or changing code requirements. It is critical to know the codes and where to find specific requirements within published standards and codes in order to ensure code compliant and safe installations.
