According to 24.1-06-01-30, the purpose of this section is to provide marking of means of egress, illumination of means of egress, and emergency lighting of means of egress. These installations must comply with code Sections 7.10.6 and 7.10.7 of the 2018 NFPA 101 Life Safety Code or more stringent locally adopted codes. A condensed guide is included in the appendix for convenience, for complete and official information refer to the applicable standard.

The Means of Egress Condensed Guide in the appendix has specific performance requirements when it comes to the minimum required level of illumination for the Means of Egress. Refer to the Laws, Rules and Wiring Standards of North Dakota for additional information.
