Code Change Summary: New Article 305 was created to provide general requirements for wiring methods and materials for systems rated over 1000 volts ac, 1500 volts dc, nominal.
For years, NEC® Article 300 has provided “General Requirements for Wiring Methods and Materials”. In the 2023 NEC®, this will still be true but new Article 305 will provide General requirements for wiring methods and materials for systems rated over 1000 volts ac, 1500 volts dc, nominal.
Other NEC® requirements within this voltage range pertaining to boxes, enclosures, busways, outdoor overhead conductors, and the like will remain where they were previously in the NEC® since this new article is intended to provide General requirements rather than Specific installation requirements.
This new Article occurred at the result of recommendations submitted by an NEC® Long Range Task Group whose goal was to improve NEC® usability by providing a platform to increase the focus on requirements associated with Medium or High Voltage installations.
Bringing applicable general requirements pertaining to medium voltage installations into one NEC® article should help the electrical industry to easier navigate the NEC®.
Based on the 2023 NEC, which of the following is true of Article 305?
