Previously, Article 220 which provides branch-circuit, feeder, and service load calculations had 5 parts.
In the 2023 NEC®, Article 220 was expanded to 7 parts by bringing in the demand factors for receptacles in health care occupancies from Article 517, and the demand factors for receptacles for Marinas, Boatyards, Floating Buildings, and Commercial and Noncommercial Docking Facilities from Article 555.
New Section 220.57 provides a basic requirement for Electric Vehicle Supply Equipment (EVSE) Loads.
New Section 220.70 provides rules on load calculations when an Energy Management System is in place.

The 2020 language on “maximum loads” from Section 220.18 was relocated to Section 220.11, since these requirements are more appropriately located under the purview of “General” requirements for all branch circuits.
