Code Change Summary: Global changes and new NEC® articles.
1. Each NEC® code cycle brings new Articles. Sometimes a new Article appears as a result of renumbering, or to consolidate rules from one or more deleted Articles. In the 2023 NEC®, new Articles include:
235 Branch Circuits, Feeders, and Services Over 1000 Volts ac, 1500 Volts dc, Nominal
245 Overcurrent Protection for Systems Rated Over 1000 Volts ac, 1500 Volts dc
305 General Requirements for Wiring Methods and Materials for Systems Rated Over 1000 Volts ac, 1500 Volts dc, Nominal
315 Medium Voltage Conductors, Cable, Cable Joints, and Cable Terminations
369 Insulated Bus Pipe (IBP)/Tubular Covered Conductors (TCC) Systems

2. Definitions in the beginning of each Article were moved to Article 100 so that all NEC® definitions are now in one place.
3. During the 2023 NEC® development process, the format of many code sections changed to properly align with the NEC® Style Manual. The idea is to always maintain consistency with proper lists and numbering throughout all of the NEC® Articles for ease of use.
Some of the previous code sections went straight from the section title into several paragraphs of requirements that really should have been separated.
Many previous code sections may have already been in a list format but did not have a heading at the beginning of the list to introduce the content to follow.

2020 Code Language:
620.6 Ground-Fault Circuit-Interrupter Protection for Personnel. Each 125-volt, single-phase, 15- and 20-ampere receptacle installed in pits, in hoistways, on the cars of elevators and dumbwaiters associated with wind turbine tower elevators, on the platforms or in the runways and machinery spaces of platform lifts and stairway chairlifts, and in escalator and moving walk wellways shall be of the ground-fault circuit-interrupter type.
All 125-volt, single-phase, 15- and 20-ampere receptacles installed in machine rooms, control spaces, machinery spaces, and control rooms shall have ground-fault circuit-interrupter protection for personnel.
A permanently installed sump pump shall be permanently wired or shall be supplied by a single receptacle that is ground-fault circuit-interrupter protected.
2023 Code Language:
620.6 Ground-Fault Circuit-Interrupter Protection for Personnel.
(A) Pits, Hoistways, and on Cars. (B) Machine Rooms, Control Spaces, Machinery Spaces, Control Rooms, and Truss Interiors. All 125-volt, single-phase, 15- and 20-ampere receptacles installed in machine rooms, control spaces, machinery spaces, control rooms, and truss interiors shall have listed Class A ground-fault circuit-interrupter protection for personnel.
(C) Sump Pumps. A permanently installed sump pump shall be permanently wired or shall be supplied by a receptacle that is protected by a listed Class A ground-fault circuit-interrupter.
