NEC Section 620.5 provides rules on working clearances about controllers, disconnecting means, and other electrical equipment related to the elevator.

In the OESC, this section was amended to also include an allowance for elevator machine room doors as follows:

620.5 Working Clearances. Working space shall be provided about controllers, disconnecting means, and other electrical equipment in accordance with 110.26(A).

Where conditions of maintenance and supervision ensure that only qualified persons examine, adjust, service, and maintain the equipment, the clearance requirements of 110.26(A) shall not be required where any of the conditions in 620.5(A) through (D) are met. Where machine room doors swing inward, the arc of the door shall not encroach on those clearances required by 110.26(A).

Oregon amendments to the 2023 NEC® are located in “Table 1-E” of the Oregon Electrical Specialty Code (OESC) which can be seen using the following link or the OESC PDF file located near the bottom of the screen: 2023 OESC
