NEC Section 330.30 is all about securing and supporting type MC cable. This can be done with staples, cable ties, straps, hangers, or similar fittings; or other approved means. This section changed back in the 2017 NEC® to require cable ties to be listed and identified for securement and support.
Currently there are many cable ties on the market that are specifically listed for securing and supporting. Those that are not are only suitable for cable “positioning”. There is a big difference between positioning a cable to stay out of the way or in a specific place and using a cable tie to support the cable and bear the weight of it.
Oregon has amended the wording in this section to delete the code language requiring the cable ties to be listed and identified for securement and support. This also occurred in Section 320.30 (AC cable) and 315.40 for MV cable.
Oregon amendments to the 2023 NEC® are located in “Table 1-E” of the Oregon Electrical Specialty Code (OESC) which can be seen using the following link or the OESC PDF file located near the bottom of the screen: 2023 OESC
