According to NEC® 210.52(E)(3), balconies, decks, and porches that are attached to the dwelling unit and are accessible from inside the dwelling unit shall have at least one receptacle outlet accessible from the balcony, deck, or porch. The receptacle outlet shall not be located more than 6 ½ ft above the balcony, deck, or porch walking surface.

In Oregon, the following exceptions have been added to omit the receptacle for smaller balconies, decks and porches:

Exception No. 1 to (3): Decks or porches located at grade level with an area of less than 1.9 m2 (20 ft2) are not required to have an additional receptacle installed.

Exception No. 2 to (3): Decks or porches located above grade level with a depth of 304 mm (1 ft) or less measured from the outside of the wall to the outside of the framing member are not required to have an additional receptacle installed.
