Code Change Summary: Language was added to address the proper use of Liquidtight Flexible Metal Conduit fittings.

As strange as it sounds, installers out there using PVC fittings on Liquidtight Flexible Metal Conduit (LFMC) created the need for a code change to provide further clarification.

NEC Section 350.6 already had language requiring LFMC and associated fittings to be listed but now, section 350.42 provides additional requirements. In the 2014 NEC®, “only fittings listed for use with LFMC shall be used” with LFMC.

As well, a new sentence was added stating “straight LFMC fittings shall be permitted for direct burial where marked”. This aligns with existing code language in 356.42 for Liquidtight Flexible Nonmetallic Conduit (LFNC),

2014 Code Language:

350.42 Couplings and Connectors. Only fittings listed for use with LFMC shall be used. Angle connectors shall not be concealed. Straight LFMC fittings shall be permitted for direct burial where marked.
