NEC 230.2 states that a building or other structure served shall be supplied by only one electric service unless permitted in 230.2(A) through (D).

It often becomes difficult to understand what is considered a single building when determining how many services can be installed. Often, a large building is sectioned off and separated by several fire rated demising walls. In Article 100, the NEC® defines a building as “a structure that stands alone or that is separated from adjoining structures by fire walls”.

Refer to the Laws, Rules and Wiring Standards of North Dakota for additional rules pertaining to house panels not covered in the above commentary.
