Code Change Summary: Section 210.2 was renumbered to 210.3 and rewording makes it clear that something in chapter 4 can modify Article 210 requirements where referenced.

The general rule is, only Chapters 5, 6, and 7 can modify the rules in chapters 1-4 (see illustration in NEC® 90.3 and image on screen). There’s always an exception to the rule. Even though this code change is not really an exception, it still applies.

This is another one of those code sections that requires a careful read in order to grasp what the code change is trying to accomplish.

The revised code language simply states that Table 210.3 provides references for specific equipment and applications not located in Chapters 5, 6, or 7 that amend or supplement the requirements of this article.

When looking at Table 210.3, most code references in the Table come from Chapter 4 and even one from Chapter 3.

In simple terms, code references listed in Table 210.3 can modify or amend the requirements in article 210 even if the illustration in 90.3 says otherwise.
